Nebari?
So what's going on here, you ask? Nebari, what? Well, that's a good question. Proper FAQ material I guess.
Well, first of all, this used to be a Farscape fansite made just for fun.
Basically, I like the scifi series Farscape. And in Farscape there's an alien species known as the Nebari.
Facts about the Nebari
- First of all, apparently the word nebari could be used when discussing horticulture
in Japanese. But that is not what this site is about. It may also mean viscosity in Japanese
language but that's not what this site is about either. So let's move on...
- The Nebari are an fictional alien race in the scifi series Farscape.
- The Nebari look a lot like humans. However they have light grey skin with some darker
areas around the eyes and some other places. Strangely it seems that male nebari have a
black hair while females have white/grey hair.
- We don't actually know much about life of the Nebari as it seems they mostly stay in their
own territory.
- The Nebari society is generally a peaceful one. The Nebari
consider any kind of aggressive behaviour and violence to be a bad thing.
- Most Nebari citizens conform to the expectations of others without arguments and
follow the rules. And the peer pressure to do so is high. Those who do not conform may
be brainwashed - they call it mind cleansing - with techniques similar to what is used
in the movie A Clockwork Orange in order to remove such erratic behaviour.
- The Nebari blood is blue.
- The Nebari technology is very advanced and their weapons superior to most, maybe to all.
They were once able to destroy the supposed-to-be-invincible Peacekeeper command carrier
Zelbinion when it was trespassing in their territory - despite claiming to not have any
actual military vessels. (Peacekeepers are Sebaceans, another species in Farscape.)
- The Nebari weapon scientists apparently once punched a hole through to another dimension,
resulting in the destruction of the whole solar system where the experiment took place.
- The Nebari government is planning to take over the galaxy to remove all
aggressive behaviour and bring peace to all.
- To help their plans the Nebari scientists have created a contagious disease that makes
other species more willing to submit and conform to the Nebari rule.
- There exists an active Nebari resistance movement, and some non-conformist colonies.
- Considering all the above the Nebari were strangely absent from the Peacekeeper Wars mini-series.
Facts about Farscape
- Farscape is - or rather was - a groundbreaking science fiction TV series originally
produced for the SciFi Channel.
- Apart from Chiana who is one of the main characters (introduced in the 15th episode Durka
Returns, and perfectly played by Gigi Edgley - I don't think anyone could
have done a better job at it.) the Nebari appear only in few episodes of the series.
- Four full seasons were made 1998-2002 before the rather premature cancellation - the fifth season had already
been announced.
- A mini-series The Peacekeeper Wars was made 2004 to bring the story to a proper end.
- The main cast members: Ben Browder (John Crichton), Claudia Black (Aeryn Sun),
Anthony Simcoe (Ka D'Argo), Gigi Edgley (Chiana), Wayne Pygram (Scorpius), Rygel XVI (as himself :)),
Virginia Hey (Zhaan), Pilot (as himself :)), Raelee Hill (Sikozu), Tammy Mackintosh (Jool), Melissa Jaffer (Noranti),
Lani Tupu (Crais), Moya (as Herself :)).
- The first in a series of new Farscape comic books was released
on 24th Dec 2008. It was an immediate hit. And obviously they then made more.
These continue the story from the Peacekeeper Wars.
- SciFi Channel has commissioned 10 new webisodes of Farscape but there is no word on
when we might actually see them. Still in development, it seems.
